Selected field-based positions
Although requirements vary, AVSC generally employs physicians, trainers, nurses, and evaluation and program professionals. Educational requirements usually include a related undergraduate or master's degree in public health, social sciences, nursing or international studies, or a medical degree. Related work experience in health, family planning, or reproductive health in the U.S., home country, and/or developing countries is highly desirable. We seek physicians with experience in family planning, obstetrics and gynecology, and other aspects of reproductive health, with an understanding of the numerous related medical and social issues.
Some assignments require experience with program development, training/instructional design, counseling, evaluation, or research. Fluency in French or Spanish is required for many positions and is generally desirable. Excellent English language skills (written and oral) are necessary. Facility with various computer packages is helpful. We seek team players with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cross-culturally with others. Applicants should be willing to travel internationally. Consulting assignments are typically based overseas. Lengths of consulting assignments vary from several weeks to several months.
